“Andy and I had already both matched for our residency programs in Birmingham, AL, and it was our last day in New Orleans before moving. Andy knew I was really sad about leaving the city, and amidst the stacked moving boxes in his apartment, he gave me the best going away present I would ever imagine — an engagement ring! We were eating Cafe du Monde beignets to-go and sipping on mimosas on a makeshift breakfast table (a little outdoor bistro set since everything else had been packed away), listening to classic jazz, and he told me he had a surprise for me in the refrigerator behind me (I was SO excited, thinking it was a Debbie Does Doberge Cake!) — and when I turned backed around (disappointed from not finding cake), he was down on one knee! And the rest is history :)
PS: We went to get doberge cake at Cafe Ameile after to celebrate :)”
